Thank you to the Centre Daily Times for publishing my Letter to the Editor about #GivingTuesday. Centre County Housing and Land Trust is thankful to serve a community that cares. Invest locally on December 1, 2015.
The United Nations Foundation and 92nd Street Y in New York City started #GivingTuesday in 2012 in an effort to combat the rampant commercialism of the holiday season and days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Since then, nonprofit partners have increased from 2,500 in the United States in its first year to more than 35,000 worldwide in 2015. This giving day has spread internationally to encourage not only charitable contributions but also community engagement.
Congress went on to pass a bipartisan resolution recognizing the benefits of charitable giving and expressing support for #GivingTuesday.
Locally, Centre County is filled with people who care and are generous with their time and money to provide invaluable services to our community.
One organization participating in #GivingTuesday is Centre County Housing and Land Trust. CCHLT is a nonprofit that is passionate about strengthening our community through permanently affordable homeownership, giving our neighbors a place to call home. CCHLT serves as a steward of land for the community’s benefit.
Your generosity on #GivingTuesday (Dec. 1) will promote affordable housing that lasts with empowered homeowners, while showing the world that you care about your community. Consider your donation as an investment in Centre County.
Help us create and sustain opportunities for safe, affordable homes that can change lives and better families as well as help strengthen our neighborhoods now and for generations to come.
Take time this holiday season to come together as a community. Your collective generosity will improve the lives of our neighbors.
